How Urban Farmhouse Built A Kitchen In 24-Hours
The first week of October we filmed a Sizzle Reel, for Cineflix Production Company. Life is always a little bit crazy at Urban Farmhouse but October was especially crazy. During the making of our sizzle reel, we renovated the second floor of our warehouse and built a kitchen in 24 hours! We hope to inspire you with our #URBANDIY Kitchen.
I recieived the initial email from Dan Pasqua, a producer with Cineflix in late spring. When I opened it, the first thing I read was: “Have you ever thought about having your own TV show?” Well no, I had not. Is this a joke? I’m probably getting Punk’d right now! LOL. I put it aside–but after several more emails over the course of a month from Dan–I finally realized it was for Real and he was Serious!
I was curious, though and I just had to ask him how in the world did he find us??? We own a little furniture store in Oklahoma City, OK for heavens sake! He told me he had seen our about us video on our website and it made him stop and watch. He said he actually watched the whole 6 minute video (which in the grand scheme of things is pretty long if you ask me). After a few Skypes back and forth to Canada the rest was History.
Modern Farmhouse Kitchen | My Plans and Sourcelists
Now to get to the good stuff. Since the Production Crew was coming and we had plans to film for several days we timed it so that they could shoot the before and after of our Modern Farmhouse Makeover (in one portion of our warehouse). See, we have 4 warehouses in Downtown, OKC, but there was one in particular that was in desperate need of some TLC, hence the 24-Hour Kitchen Reno. Below is the sketch I did on my husband’s notepad in about 10 min.
My Plan for UFD’s Modern Kitchen
The idea to renovate the warehouse and build a kitchen in 24 hours sounded a little crazy to my staff, but they quickly became intrigued with the idea. I wanted to create an Urban-Farmhouse-Modern-Kitchen and use it to display our new line of SMEG retro appliances (now available in store). I owe my #UFD Crew a BIG Thank You for all their hard work. They helped me make the Urban Farmhouse Kitchen come to life!
Here are some of the items I used to create the #UFD Farmhouse Kitchen:
I ran over to my Farmhouse Finds Warehouse and found some Old Wood Crates that I used to make drawers. I used 16″ long beveled edge White Subway Tile with black grout for the back-splash. We always have an abundance of scrap wood in our Shop. So, I put it all to good use and made Floating Shelves with it. The modern hardware and fixtures paired with the reclaimed wood made balanced the look.
To help achieve a Modern look I decided to use matte gold fixtures and hardware. Of course, I could NOT find a faucet that I liked in the right finish so I purchased some Rustoleum’s spray paint in gold. The faucet turned out great and looks perfect with the bright white farmhouse sink and concrete counter tops.
To give our kitchen a little bit of edginess I added our new line of SMEG appliances to it. SMEG appliances are sold now at Urban Farmhouse Designs. Check out some of their small appliances here! We had a blast creating this kitchen renovation in 24-Hours while filming our Sizzle Reel. We couldn’t be happier with the finished project!
Oh and did I mention that in that same area we painted a whole wall of Shiplap black??? We actually call it “Farmlap” since we sell, what we call, Farmhouse Wood over in our Urban Farmhouse Lumber Co. If you are in the Oklahoma City area you should definitely come check us out!
You can watch our craftsmen build furniture right before your very eyes as you enter into our main warehouse. Once you cross over into the large glass barn doors, you will be submerged into retail heaven. But the most impressive thing about #UFD is that you can still watch the guys work as you shop. Thank you for reading my blog! Stay tuned for more updates on life here at Urban Farmhouse and the #UrbanFarmCrew.
