Let me start off by saying–that the only reason I decorated my home for the Holidays this year was because of the awful guilt trip I received from my 9-year-old daughter, Tatum. She never spoke a word but when she gave me that “look”, you know the one, and instantly I flashed back to me and the kids decorating our Fake 9-foot willow tree in the corner of the living room last year for Christmas! Below is a picture of the tree in the right hand corner.
She didn’t say a word but she was right. I just threw some string lights and a few of the kid’s ornaments on the tree and called it good. Now that I think of it, I might have even had them wrap their own presents in the garage. LOL. I know, you’d think since I’m a designer I’d have this over the top fully decorated home each year, but honestly, it’s quite the opposite. I’m just keeping it real for the Holidays people so please don’t judge me!
I’m a working mom with 4 kids, 3 fur babies, a husband, and 80 employees. When the Holidays roll around, I work day and night getting our warehouses and showrooms decorated and ready. After 12 trees and Christmas decor that goes on for miles, it’s hard to want to come home to your own home and start it all over again. By the time Thanksgiving rolls around I’m Christmased out!
Here’s a pic of Jigsaw & Dremel helping me decorate this year! They never judge me : )
That’s why some years all I want to do is to throw some strings lights up on a willow tree in the corner of the living room and call it good. Is that so much to ask for? I know I have to pull my big girl or (mom panties) up and deal with it, so this year that’s what I did. I rallied for my family. My sincere hope is to inspire you!
Keep in mind my family lives in a small 1500 sq ft rent house. We all cram in here together and my kids share bedrooms. It’s hard to go over the top in such a small space, but regardless you can always give any room (big or small) an Urban Farmhouse Christmas Look just by adding some Reclaimed Wood, Deconstructed Couch and Chairs, a #UFD Signature Furniture Piece, & Signature Tulip Crate along with some Custom Lighting and greenery.
This year I chose to go with a Wintery White theme. I used a 9 foot flocked tree and stuck dusters in it for snow. Yes, that’s right, I said dusters!!! Stay tuned for my next #UFDDIY blog post out in a few days. I’m going to give you tips on how I decorated my Winter White Tree along with the topper. In my tutorial, I’ll give you everything you need to re-create my Christmas tree.
No project is complete without Rustoleum! So I’ll show you how I spray painted my ornaments and flocked all my garland for the fireplace and under the TV surround.
Then I tied it all together with these “flocking stockings” over the fireplace. I’m sure there’s a better name for these stockings but I don’t earn my money wordsmithing–so that’s what I’m calling them!
Simple greenery like this can be used for a place setting at a bar or pub top table. It is inexpensive and elegant.
Of course, Tatum had to have her room decorated for Christmas! She picked out these cute sparkly trees for her coffee table and put a gold tree in the corner of her room next to her Teepee.
FYI-this is where Jigsaw sleeps at night. Tatum gets super mad since Jig snores a lot but she loves her Jiggy anyway.
Next to Tatum’s bed are miniature letters to Santa from her American Girl Dolls complete with milk & cookies. Designed by Little T-bug herself.
Little details make all the difference, like the mailbox we hung outside of Tatum’s door for our kids to send Letters To Santa. Check out the Printable at the end of this blog for your kiddos.
Happy Holidays to you and your Family!
